I offer photography workshops in studio portraiture and documentary street photography.
The street workshop is a hands on couple of hours together in the streets talking photography and taking photos. An informal, informative and intensive session, covering the essentials of street photography. Along the way I will answer all the dumb questions and provide real working photographer advice about the equipment to own, how to better use your camera, how to anticipate a moment, be brave, yet kind and how to see light instinctively.
The studio workshop demonstrates a formal approach to portraiture, using a camera tethered to Capture One and a model. During this session I explain how to use studio flash and reflectors to create contemporary lighting with simple backgrounds. Plus, and far more importantly, how to direct a shoot a bring out something intriging and sensitive from the subject without taking 1000 photos or being a dick about it.
For both workshops we discuss visualisation, anticipation, quality of light, composition, lens choice, depth of field, megapixels, white balance, formats, post-production, plus much, much more. You will learn from my mistakes, get great tips and shortcuts, and I will bust the marketing myths about gear. Photography is really very simple, what’s difficult is what you choose to photograph, and how.
You will leave the session able to shoot better and far more interesting photographs.

And remember – “If a photographer cares about the people before the lens and is compassionate, much is given. It is the photographer, not the camera, that is the instrument.” ~ Eve Arnold.
